6.27 Freaks

This month Freaks co-founder Justin Harris headlines the special Godskitchen Worldwide GK Angel Party on Friday, June 27th.

Having built a huge cult following Freaks were catapulted into the mainstream in the summer of 2007 with a re-work of their underground classic from 2004, ‘The Creeps’ [Get On The Dancefloor]’ which became an instant summer anthem, and the most downloaded-tune in the history of DJDownload.com the track was so popular it was eventually licensed to major television advertising campaigns.

Luke Solomon and Justin Harris are currently working with a 5-piece band and co-producing a new album with Peter Hoffman of Richard X fame. They’ve now completed production of their fourth studio album, Psych, which continues where the previous album "The Man Who Lived Underground" left off – ranting and raving about life in general!

Musically, it takes its roots from 70s ,80s and 90s dance acts just to prove a point. Bands such as Skyy, Talking Heads, the B52s and Green Velvet. Combining electronic rhythm with live instruments, Freaks set about fusing the new with the old and flying the flag for "dance music" (ultimately music you can dance too).

Freaks were originally born in 1994, the brain child of Justin Harris and Luke Solomon. They began recording for Phono, home of Herbert and Swag and their first few releases, which came in three parts, saw them journey through filter disco (The Shrunken Head), quirky mid tempo house (Journey's Through Happiness), and minimal techno (The Milwaukee Stance).

Then came the time to set up their own label and they kicked off the Music For Freaks imprint by releasing a series of 4x12 inches, each with a collectable sleeve. MFF was also home for their albums, Meanwhile Back At The Disco, The Beat Diaries and The Man Who Lived Underground and tracks such as "Turning Orange", "The Creeps" and "Where Were You When The Lights Went Out" have since become Freaks seminal records. Freaks has also garnered support from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Arthur Baker and Derrick Carter and throughout the years and the music, they have built a faithful and obsessive fanbase throughout Europe and Japan.

"Creeps" ©2008 Freaks

Get your Freak On youtube search: freaks creeps dancefloor.

So there came a point when Justin and Luke knew that Freaks wasn't just about 2 blokes twiddling some knobs in a studio and hoping for the best. And so it all began a long time ago with their early work on their first album, the Beat Diaries, which featured Stella Attar on vocals. Then Diz came along, the male vocalist. Then Rub, the bass player and brain surgeon! Then Jonny Rock, the guitarist, a long time DJ cohort. To the most recent member, drummer Sasha Davis, and Freaks was born.

Justin Harris plays the headline DJ set this Friday, June 27 at the monthly GK Angel Party at Club Bonbon, home of Godskitchen, China.

6.20 Larry Tee (NY/US)

Brooklyn DJ/producer Larry Tee, the orginator of the electroclash sound makes his way to Shanghai to celebrate the launch of his brand new hit track Licky, a collaboration with New York party royalty Princess Superstar.

licky

Larry Tee originally coined the word “Electroclash” after self-styling an ambitious new project called the Electroclash Festival which he coordinated and managed in 2001 and in doing so helped launch careers of Scissor Sisters, Fischerspooner, Ladytron and Peaches, Felix Da Housecat, and 2 Many DJs/Soulwax. He also created and managed the nouveau-electro girl group, W.I.T. and held fort as manager of the genre’s one-time bastion in Berliniamsburg, The Luxx.

With roots in Atlanta, Tee’s DJ style was always progressive, even back in the early 1980s. “You’d play Depeche Mode for these queens and they thought it was wild,” he says of the early days mixing in Atlanta.

He eventually moved to New York in the infamous drag-queen roadtrip immortalized in the 1995 feature film “To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar” starring Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo.

Tee hit major commercial success in ‘93 when he wrote “Supermodel (You Better Work)” with 6’4” drag queen and Atlanta cohort RuPaul. The track, a runaway hit, unabashedly praises the glamourous life in the spotlight of the original supermodels Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer and Christy Turlington.

Tee’s career soared through the 90’s in New York as he was a key component of the internationally-popular Club Kids scene, making appearances on exposé TV show Geraldo, The Joan Rivers Show, and Inside Edition, which introduced the Club Kid world—with it’s alternative views on gender, sexuality, music and fun—to the national forefront. Tee helped make the parties Lova Machine and the raucous Disco 2000 with the notorious clubkid Michael Alig whose life was the focal point of the 2003 feature film Party Monster.

After throwing 4 festivals stateside, which included Electroclash 1 and 2 as well as the Outsider Electronic Music Festivals 2003 & 2004 he moved on to playing cutting edge dance music to thousands each week at his NYC parties The BANK and Distortion Disko.

Last year Tee launched an international music festival in New York City called Dance Music Invasion 2007 which brought together everyone from Loco Dice, Lil’ Louie Vega to Kele from Bloc Party and Princess Superstar. His innovative spirit and attitude are summed up in his new style, which he has dubbed Maximal.

Larry’s been putting the finishing touches on a new collection featuring collaborations with Princess Superstar, Perez Hilton, Hervé, Sébastien Léger, Amanda Lepore, Christopher Just, Princess Julia, Tomboy, and 8 year-old Amanita to name but a few. “Licky” the first single off the album, is being supported by a huge range of DJs including Justice, Pete Tong, Errol Alkan, Judge Jules and Laurent Garnier.

Larry Tee is set to make his first appearance in Shanghai on Friday, June 20, 2008 at Club Bonbon in the first installment of a new series of monthly LGBT-inspired events. Next month we dig deep into the dirtiest dumpsters of London’s Shoreditch section to find a rare gem of a party named “Trailer Trash” tipped heavily as “a dirty eastend disco for truckerboyz and cowgrrl’s alike, playing filthy nasty electro music...” Trailer Trash head honcho DJ Hannah Holland brigs her “Batty Bass” sound to Club Bonbon July 11.

6.06 James Talk (UK)

Friday, June 6, 2008
James Talk - Spoken Recordings

UK DJ/producer James Talk returns to Club Bonbon, Shanghai, the home of Godskitchen, China in support of his brand new release "Are You Listening" which features vocal embellishment by Liz Melody, and his grimy electro remix of King Unique's “Yohkoh” track that came out earlier this year.

Born and bred in Southampton, James Talk’s reputation has been forged on endless days in the studio perfecting his unique sound of funky tech and acid house, and spellbinding performances at some of the biggest clubs on the planet.

The ball started rolling in February 2005 when James was invited to supply the guest mix on John Digweed’s Kiss 100FM radio show. The mix earned praise from far and wide, and James has never looked back since.

One of his many supporters Nic Fanciulli has already signed three of James’s tracks to his Saved label and featured them on his recent Renaissance compilations. James has also earned props from djs that include Sasha, John Digweed, Danny Howells, Pete Tong, Steve Lawler and many others who have helped push James’s sound to scores of listeners around the world.

“I like to write what I feel. At the time I started writing music I was into Gabriel & Dresden and James Holden amongst others. As my production skills improved as did my taste in music, and I now lean towards the Acid House side of things, but try to mix it up with elements of deep house and techno.” Says James of his production style.

James was voted as DJ Mag’s Breakthrough Artist 2006 by Nic Fanciulli, Sander Kleinenberg and Fergie. i-DJ magazine also featured James alongside Max Sedgley and Braund Reynolds as ‘One To Watch’ for the future.

His work alongside Audiofly on ‘Cool Wet Grass’ was signed to DJ T's Get Physical Music label, and his ‘Eggs Are Cute’ track became one of the most successful releases on the Nu-Republic label. James has since launched his own label “Spoken Recordings” which is an outlet for his own material. His releases ‘Remote’, ‘Warm Milk’ and ‘Pass Me The Suntan Lotion’ have consistently garnered the label top slot on Beatport music portal's new releases category.

“Spoken Recordings was born simply for the means to release my own singles, under my own terms in my own time frame. Waiting for label release schedules is frustrating and I needed to get some tracks out there as soon as possible, before I started to work on more music. So we started Spoken Recordings at the beginning of 2006. The main focus for the label [was] 'Pass Me The Suntan Lotion' coupled with a remix from Nic Fanciulli. The original is also featured on Nic’s Renaissance CD and he had the exclusive on the track all summer for Space, and as I hear it was one of his biggest records.”

James is also one of the most in demand new artists on the remix scene, with projects for Underwater, CR2, Data, Big Love, Saved and Little Mountain Records. His style and fresh sound is consistent throughout remix projects with artists that include Danny Howells, Stakker Humanoid of FSoL fame, DJ Pierre, King Unique, Buick Project, and Feddie Le Grand.

James Talk returns to Club Bonbon, Shanghai, the home of Godskitchen, China on Friday June 6, 2008 marking the start of his summer tour. His DJ diary continues to grow with gigs all over the world, having previously destroyed dancefloors at Ministry Of Sound, Womb, Shindig, Renaissance, Godskitchen and Coloursfest.

5.02.08 Kitsuné

Friday, May 2, 2008
Gildas and Masaya, founders of Kitsuné

This is about music, all kinds of music, whether made with guitars or machines, it’s about attitude, personality and character...

Kitsuné, the Franco-Japanese company has been cleverly bridging music, fashion and design since 2002 with their first record release Funkin for Jamaica by ex-Dee-Lite DJ Towa Tei. The young and unique brand Kitsuné is the brainchild of Gildas Loaec and Masaya Kuroki who not only direct operations of the company’s music, and fashion (retail and design) operations, but are also a fine pair of DJs – an activity that’s proven essential in running what is arguably the most exciting record labels in the world today.

Since the original Funkin debut, Kitsuné have gone on to sign cutting-edge acts like Digitalism, Klaxons, Simian Mobile Disco, and Hot Chip all having released massive tracks on the Kitsuné Music label, which now has over 70 releases as well as a series of very popular Maison Kitsuné compilations.

After consistently rocking the coolest parties from London to Tokyo via Reykjavik and New York, Gildas and Masaya are celebrating the release of their latest DJ mix album Paris with a very special CD launch party at Club Bonbon, Shanghai .

What is underground today will be mainstream tomorrow, and Kitsuné are here to prove it. At a time when so many record labels are closing down, Kitsuné’s turnover continues to grow and with without concessions towards commercialism.

The idea was always to reach as many people as possible with our open-minded conception of pop music and some original yet attractive sounds. We have no qualms about merging the worlds of electronic & rock. This is about music, all kind of music, whether made with guitars or machines, it’s about attitude, personality and character... -Gildas.

2008 is already a banner year, and Kitsuné are celebrating the opening of their own retail shop in Paris as well as the release of their latest tracks by New Yorkers Fischerspooner and a brand new single by Cazals entitled Somebody Somewhere. It’s the continued success of the entire series of Maison Kitsuné DJ mix CDs, with eclectic mixes and mashups of rock, pop and electro that truly defines this quite undefinable duo, especially when they are behind the decks.

For more Kitsuné, check out their official website at www.maisonkitsune.fr (http://www.maisonkitsune.fr) where you’ll also find many of their singles and full-length CDs available for download. Or join their Facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kitsune/19873339768?ref=mf) to hear some of their latest tracks.

The founders of Kitsuné, Gildas and Masaya take a break from the daily operations of their record label and fashion brand to cut loose at a very special event marking the release of their latest DJ mix CD Paris at Shanghai Club Bonbon on Friday May 2, 2008.

4.25.08 Tiefschwarz (DE)

Celebrating 10 Years of Tiefschwarz

We don’t have a musical background, we have a party background...

Tiefschwarz created much buzz amongst clubland’s cognescenti at the biggest parties of last month’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, headlining with Ewan Pearson at Suite Lounge, utterly destroying Nikki Beach, and then laying it all on the line at the prestigious OM Records party OM:Miami at the Ultralounge. 2008 has started off with quite a bang for the brothers from Stuttgart, and they make their return trip to Shanghai on Friday, April 25.

A lot has happened in the past 2 years since Tiefschwarz first visited China. After a stellar Shanghai event at Club Bonbon in June 2006 the Schwarz brothers Ali and Basti went on to complete some very high-profile remixes of some very high-profile artists including Depeche Mode’s “John The Revelator”, Roxy Music’s “Rain Rain Rain”, and Madonna’s “Get Together”.

They also released the “Fabric 29” mixed CD for the London superclub’s record label. But the biggest development for brothers whom derive their name Tiefschwarz as an amalgam of their family name and the German word for “deep”, was the creation of their very own recording label - SOUVENIR. It’s a project that Ali and Basti had excitedly planned for years and has finally taken off, releasing some of the best new dance music to hit the decks in years.

2007 marked the tenth anniversary of Tiefschwarz in the music business celebrating the 1997 release of their first single “24 Seven” a deep house track on the German label Continuemusics. To celebrate, the brothers released “10 Years of Tiefschwarz” a retrospective DJ mix and collection of Tiefschwarz tracks remixed by heavy-hitters Carl Craig, Samim, Drama Society and Shonky.

To top it all off, Tiefschwarz were also nominated for a Grammy in 2007 under the Best Remix category for the Buick Project remix of their track “Damage” which featured vocals by Tracey Thorn.

The road to the Grammys was full of twists and turns for Tiefschwarz. Ali and Basti Schwarz created Tiefschwarz out of a passion nurtured since 1990 from their first experiences as DJs at the now legendary clubs in Stuttgart "ON -U" (1990 – 1993) and "Red Dog" (1993 – 1997). They moved into bigger clubs and were among the first promoters to attract the biggest names in US house - Mike Dunn, Tony Humphries and Masters at Work all played their nights in Germany. Those deep, housey influences were plain to hear in their early production work too, as they started to tout their name by remixing tracks.

These days, Tiefschwarz are rooted in Berlin's counterculture and continue to mastered a deep, driving sound that is firmly rooted in techno, house and electro, providing unforgettable soundtracks to clubnights across the globe.

Tiefschwarz plays on Friday, April 25th at Club Bonbon, Shanghai for a very special Godskitchen Worldwide event.

4.11 DJ Tom Novy (DE)

Friday April 11, 2008

novy2

novybody

The Germans tore up crowded dance floors once again at Miami’s Winter Music Conference last month with DJ sets by Tiefschwarz at OM:Miami and Tom Novy at the famed Subliminal Records Twisted Circus Party, The Skybar, and the grand-daddy Club Azuli Miami Party at Dream. The relentless beats came from the likes of Germany’s veteran party DJ Tom Novy whom, with over 15 years of DJ experience, is set to make his first appearance in Shanghai on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Club Bonbon.

Tom Novy’s rise to the top of Germany’s house music scene was built upon his ability to break traditional formulaic approaches to spinning a single-genre set and to get to the core of the matter at hand: To get down!

I started my DJ-career with HipHop. Then, at the beginning of the 90s, I discovered Techno. Presently, House is my passion. Even today I'd love to combine all kinds of different styles in my sets but that's become almost impossible because people always expect one certain sound from me. Unfortunately, thinking in rather narrow categories has definitely become more popular. Many people refuse to combine things even though Hip Hop, House, and also Techno have far more in common than it may first appear. The globalisation has reached a state at which it doesn't really matter anymore whether you're playing in New York, Amsterdam or Tokyo. You almost always meet the kind of people whose first priority is to have fun.

In 2005, after 10 years in the recording business, Novy broke new ground with the dancefloor stormer “Your Body”, a cheeky track previously released in Germany in 2004 on vinyl only. It was picked up by the hottest DJ in Australia, Andy Van, and soon shot to #1 on the ARIAN (Australian) charts (MOS Australia). “Your Body” saw the same success in South Africa (EMI), holding on to the top 5 for 12 weeks in a row. With the support of every major radio station and MTV in the UK, Ministry of Sound UK saw TOP 10 success with this massive hit! Additional international labels licensed and released “Your Body” around the world and the track continues to enjoy both club and radio airplay.

Following the success of YOUR BODY, Tom released a follow up single in early 2006, “Take It” eventually landed at 37th position in the UK and in the top 30 in Australia. It sat on the charts in Germany for 36 weeks in a row, peaking at #5 on the DDC charts. Kosmo Music in Germany followed with the release of two more Tom Novy compilations, Niveau Nouveau Mix Compilation and the Niveau Nouvea Ibiza Sessions. And most recently the long-awaited Tom Novy album was completed: SUPERSTAR hit the shelves! This album includes all of Tom’s hit singles as well as some new club stormers.

Persistence, steadiness, and creativity are three virtues which are hard to find in any industry, especially in the German dance-scene. Since his first single "I House You" in 1995, Munich DJ and producer Tom Novy has managed to grow in all directions with remarkable consistency. Novy creates a unique and extremely danceable sound that ranges between house, dance, and funk. This process is most evident on his debut album "My Definition" on which hit-after bone-rattling-hit were churned out.

Tom’s single "Pumpin", recorded together with Eniac scored a number 19 in the English charts in June 2000. This was a good year for remixes as well, working with such luminaries as Tom Jones & Mousse T. ("Sexbomb"), Lou Bega ("Mambo #5"), and Eddie Amador ("Rise"), which added to his international reputation.

Even though House with all its varieties is clearly predominant for the most part of Tom Novy's work, he has become far more than an average Dance-producer. His musical vision on "My Definition“, Tom’s first album released in 2000- reaching from hits like "Superstar", one of his most successful singles ever, to chart-busters like "Get Down With the Funk" - definitely doesn't run out as quickly. “Superstar” has officially been named one of the 10 biggest songs in dance music history (Raveline -2005) Funkiness is really the term to describe Tom Novy's music at the moment. "Musically I've always been walking along borderlines, not willing to settle for one certain style" says Tom.

Tom Novy’s premiere appearance in Shanghai is on Friday, April 11th at Club Bonbon. Be sure to visit http://www.clubbonbon.com for more information and check http://www.urbanon.com for a chance to win free tickets to this very special event.

Mashtronic (DE) Friday, 3.28

Friday, March 28, 2008

One of Europe's hottest and most prolific electronic mashup acts with over 70 tracks completed in just over 4 years, Mashtronic is an incredible follow-up to the huge success of the recent Young Punx (http://www.clubbonbon.com/content/view/41/99) show, and add to the list of groundbreaking all-star mashup artists/DJs that have rocked jam-packed crowds at Club Bonbon over the past two years including Simian Mobile Disco, 2ManyDjs, Basement Jaxx' Felix B, Arthur Baker, Felix da Housecat, and The Scratch Perverts.

Mashtronic are Mathias Bradler (DE) and Henri Hurtig (SE/FI), the duo formed online proving that a collaboration through the internet works as well as if they were sitting beside each other in a studio.
The duo has just released "The Mashtronic EP 3" online. Take a listen to some new Mashtronic tracks and see some vids at Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mashtronic/12409764198).

Their first release "Mashtronic EP" saw the daylight in 2004, and they were confident that they had something really good going on as it gained instant sttus as a club hit and garnered worldwide support from some of the biggest headline DJs around. They have amassed an impressive discography consisting of over 70 releases, both originals and remixes on prominent labels including Global Underground, Bedrock, Ministry Of Sound, Data, Alternative Route. Their unique and diverse sound is favored by DJ's like John Digweed, Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Dave Seaman, Armin Van Buuren, Deep Dish, Desyn Masiello to name a few, and Mashtronic tracks have topped the most prestigious charts like Buzz and Balance.

The success of their releases has earned Mashtronic DJ bookings in many of the world's top venues, from South America, across Europe to Australia. In 2007 they were part of the massive Global Underground world tour. The Shagnahi Club Bonbon show on Friday, March 28th marks their premiere event in China.

Mathias and Henri launched two independent record labels in 2006: Mashtronic and Restart Records, and they are currently celebrating the label's 10th original release and 75th remix while enjoying the critical and dancefloor-approved acclaim of recent their most tracks "Make My Day" on Superstar Recordings; "One Week In Paradise" on Extrema; "Perfect" on Ministry Of Sound (Germany); Salt In NYC on Global Underground Music; "Rockstar" track on Slammin Muzik and "Brazilian Love Affair" track on Ma Jolie Musique.

2008 began as an exceptional year for the dynamic duo. Their new project called Bradler & Hurtig and Bradler & Dualton has already gained a respectable following with their more techier, German sounding house fans.

3.21 Harry "Choo Choo" Romero

Friday, March 21, 2008

Godskitchen Worldwide presents an exclusive, first ever appearance in China by HARRY CHOO CHOO ROMERO (Bambossa / Subliminal / X Mix Productions, NYC).

The legendary US house DJ, owner of Bambossa Records, part of the X Mix stable alongside Armand Van Helden & Todd Terry and Erick Morillo's Subliminal label, lands in Shanghai for an exclusive one off show.

His first record, Soulfuric "Urban Turban" was clearly ahead of its time, weaving Arabic scatting with house grooves. Strictly Rhythm grabbed the record for release in 1995, and asked him to release a follow-up Soulfuric record, called "Sea Of Passion" which captured more Latin elements. Both records were licensed extensively, catapulting Harry's name and music out into the world.

A number of releases followed for labels like Emotive, Sex Mania, Power Music, and Gossip Records. One of Harry's major breaks resulted from C&C Music Factory's Robert Civilles' interest in one of Harry's creations named "Il Futuro", a house track with an Italian vocal from "World" EP.Robert asked Harry to write, produce, and arrange a song, "Saturday Night" for his 1996 LP "Robi-Rob's Club World". As expected, lots of work followed for Harry.

3.12 Tania von Pear

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Describing her sound as “big room house”, Tania is as well known for her music as she is for her energetic performances behind the decks as she can often be found rockin out harder than the crowd while bringing in the next track and cueing up an accapella. Her motto is to make them sweat and never leave the dancefloor!

As well as presenting a weekly show for MoS Radio, Tania also writes a monthly column for M8 Magazine and runs 3 labels at her day job at Seamless Recordings. She found success on the label front initially with her own imprint – Pear Music – which found success with “Cheza” licensed around the world including the Defected in the House compilation among others and “Hypnotise Me” appearing on the “It’s All Gone Pete Tong” release.

After two releases on Pear Music: “Time Passes” and her own remix of “Cheza”, Tania has a new remix for Kinky Vinyl for early 2007 of Australian hero Nathan G’s “Chasing Rainbows” as well as original productions on the go for two other labels!

3.07 The Young Punx

As the music industry continues to evolve, more and more artists are blurring the once-divided lines of DJ and musician. This Friday March 7, 2008 Shanghai Club Bonbon, Home of Godskitchen China proudly presents The Young Punx, one of UKs hottest acts who have earned high praise as by the likes of Judge Jules of BBC Radio 1, and Fatboy Slim.

The most insane/catchy tune of the year... Fatboy Slim

The Young Punx are pioneers of a new sound called Mashpop and Punkstep, and add to the list of groundbreaking, mixed up and mashed up artists/DJs that have stunned crowds at Club Bonbon over the past two years including Simian Mobile Disco, 2ManyDjs, Basement Jaxx' Felix B, Arthur Baker, Felix da Housecat, and The Scratch Perverts.

Their podcasts are among the most downloaded music shows on Apple's iTunes Music Store

The Young Punx are in fact the London-based duo Hal Ritson and Cameron Saunders. Over the past few years they have firmly established themselves as the new darlings of UK dance music, with many of the world’s top DJs championing their records and over 100 BBC Radio 1 plays to date. The duo are at the forefront of the UK dance scene, and their cheeky pop culture mentality has seen them catch the headlines in mainstream media as diverse as The Sun, The Mirror, La Stampa, Radio 4 news and even BBC 2 Newsnight.

They just recently released a full-length debut album "Your music is killing me". Their fresh and energetic sound that they term "Mashpop and Punkstep" is the natural next step in the evolution of mashup music - fusing elements of house, electro, breaks and drum and bass with an eclectic soundclash of popular culture references, rock, disco, 80s pop, classical and jazz to create something instantly original and resolutely accessible.

iMH5w18nCbM
novybody

Performed entirely by the band and their guests without any audio samples, and with a wry sense of cheeky humour and pop art sensibility, the album features tracks such as "Rockall", ‘Young And Beautiful’ and a surfer breaks track ‘You’ve got to...’ which is featured on the FIFA '07 EA computer game.

Today, The Young Punx are among the most highly demanded remixers in the UK. They have remixed artists such as Chicane and Tom Jones, Scissor Sisters, Hound dogs, Dario G, Tina Turner, Space Cowboy and many more. The Young Punx created the lead radio mix for Studio B’s “C’mon Get it On” which spent several weeks on the Radio 1 Playlist. Their radical Motown-meets-house overhaul of the classic Delacey "Hideaway" has gained a reputation as one of the most daring and enjoyable remixes of recent years, and most recently their mix of Norman Cook's "Mighty Dub Katz - Magic Carpet Ride" hit number 1 in the UK club charts.

Like 2ManyDJs/Soulwax, The Young Punx perform both as DJs and as The Young Punx live band. The full live band includes guitar virtuoso Guthrie Govan (Guitarist Magazine guitarist of the year) and vocals from Tiffany Gore (Medcab / Kraak en Smaak) and Yolanda Quartey (Bugz in the attic / Deekline / Cuban Brothers). In 2006 they performed for 2 nights at the Nano Mugen Festival in Japan to an audience of 24,000. Highlights of 2007 include performing at the Glastonbury Festival, the XFM Remix at Cargo, and SummerSonic Festival in Tokyo and Osaka.

More recently The Young Punx have recorded guest mixes for Annie Nightingale, XFM, Kiss FM, Andi Durrant’s Galaxy FM Network and Ministry of Sound radio, and several mixes for Judge Jules. They are residents at Positiva Calling at The Cross in London and have DJed at Radiohead’s aftershow parties in Earl’s Court

As well as co-running dance label MofoHifi, and performing in dance acts Medcab and Mohito, multi-instrumentalist Hal from The Young Punx also produces and/or performs behind the scenes on many other top 20 dance projects such as Eric Prydz's number one hit "Call on me”, "Shine" by the Lovefreekz, “Ai no corrida” by Uniting Nations and “Fire” by Lethal Bizzle. Hal is the vocalist on the top 20 hit “Tell me why” by Supermode on Data Records and co-wrote 3 tracks on the new album by David Guetta.

The Young Punx are the evolution of electronic dance music, mixing live performance elements into the DJ performance and taking the mashup to newer, higher levels. They perform a live DJ set at Shanghai Club Bonbon on Friday, March 7, 2008.

2 Years of Madness - 12.15 is bonbon's 2nd anniversary

Bonbon's 2 year birthday party is coming up on Saturday 12.15 and if you saw any of the 200-or-so DJs that bonbon's hosted, then you might have a fav or two.

Here's my list...

1. 2manydjs - the Belgians turned bonbon upside-down, inside-out and sideways last December. The night was soo lahhhrge that it spunoff Mashup Tuesdays, a nite for 2manydj's, justice, ed bangers styled madness.

2. Q-Bert - Last September (06) his 1st visit to Shanghai and damn if he didnt bring out just about everyone who's even remotely into hiphop. i practically gave up on DJ's after seeing him... He's like a human drum machine, without the drum, or the machine!!! And he came back on Sat 12.01.07!!

3. Its a tossup between the techno masters Sven Vath and Richie Hawtin.. Probalby Sven Vath cuz he opened the doors for 5 hr marathon sets at bonbon! Dj Hell played a great long set last month as well.

4. Scratch Perverts or Goldie... Both were fierce as f$k tho i give the edge to the Pervs.
