Rock / indie
sucking in the 70s

I been waiting for another 70s revival and it looks like it's already upon us, what with the 80s electro/clash/trash/thrash/mash that's been around for awhile now, making things from the 70s even more accessible.

Without going into an extended diatribe on what might or might not happen with some kinda 70s revival, I'll cut right to the good stuff --> The music had attitude.

Music in the 70s... Lets see, there was rock in all kinds of flavors, disco, soul, r&b, jazz... People were gettin down to all kinds of good stuff. I suppose the pre-AIDS attitudes of the times were quite carefree, and the living the rockstar life became the dream/fantasy of people everywhere.

To give an example, the 70s made possible music/ lyrics like this: 1. Woke up this morning with a wine glass in my hand... Who's wine? What wine?? Where the hell did I dine??!!
-Pete Frampton, "Do you feel like I do" from the massive album "Frampton Comes Alive" an Arena Rock classic.

2. I been walkin Central Park, singing after dark, people think I'm crazy...
-Rolling Stones, "Miss You" from the 78 album "Some Girls"

3. I go to parties sometimes until four, It's hard to leave when you can't find the door...
-Joe Walsh, "Life's been good" from the 78 album "But seriously folks"

So, 70s, welcome back... Now bring on the excess..

This is one of those huge songs that somehow got overlooked possibly because the entire Rattle and Hum live album (and movie) was just massive...

Its wrought with simile....

like thunder needs rain,
like a needle needs a vein,
like a runaway train...

I Need Your love, I need Your Love...

Bowie in a different flavor...

The robots or aliens or whatever... it was all kind of avantgarde. Concept rock. Dunno what its called now.. still great music with the unforgettable line: Time and again I tell myself stay clean tonight...

I've never done good things, I've never done bad things.... I never did anything out of the blue...

f'n brilliant!

The Who

Love Reign Over Me

Pete Townsend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle and Keith Moon... The epic closer from their 2nd rock opera "Quadrophenia" which also starred Sting of The Police in a "Mods" vs "Rockers" coming of age movie...

A classic track with the line "Only love can make it rain, like a beach is kissed by the sea... love reign on me..."
