We don’t have a musical background, we have a party background...
Tiefschwarz created much buzz amongst clubland’s cognescenti at the biggest parties of last month’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, headlining with Ewan Pearson at Suite Lounge, utterly destroying Nikki Beach, and then laying it all on the line at the prestigious OM Records party OM:Miami at the Ultralounge. 2008 has started off with quite a bang for the brothers from Stuttgart, and they make their return trip to Shanghai on Friday, April 25.
A lot has happened in the past 2 years since Tiefschwarz first visited China. After a stellar Shanghai event at Club Bonbon in June 2006 the Schwarz brothers Ali and Basti went on to complete some very high-profile remixes of some very high-profile artists including Depeche Mode’s “John The Revelator”, Roxy Music’s “Rain Rain Rain”, and Madonna’s “Get Together”.
They also released the “Fabric 29” mixed CD for the London superclub’s record label. But the biggest development for brothers whom derive their name Tiefschwarz as an amalgam of their family name and the German word for “deep”, was the creation of their very own recording label - SOUVENIR. It’s a project that Ali and Basti had excitedly planned for years and has finally taken off, releasing some of the best new dance music to hit the decks in years.
2007 marked the tenth anniversary of Tiefschwarz in the music business celebrating the 1997 release of their first single “24 Seven” a deep house track on the German label Continuemusics. To celebrate, the brothers released “10 Years of Tiefschwarz” a retrospective DJ mix and collection of Tiefschwarz tracks remixed by heavy-hitters Carl Craig, Samim, Drama Society and Shonky.
To top it all off, Tiefschwarz were also nominated for a Grammy in 2007 under the Best Remix category for the Buick Project remix of their track “Damage” which featured vocals by Tracey Thorn.
The road to the Grammys was full of twists and turns for Tiefschwarz. Ali and Basti Schwarz created Tiefschwarz out of a passion nurtured since 1990 from their first experiences as DJs at the now legendary clubs in Stuttgart "ON -U" (1990 – 1993) and "Red Dog" (1993 – 1997). They moved into bigger clubs and were among the first promoters to attract the biggest names in US house - Mike Dunn, Tony Humphries and Masters at Work all played their nights in Germany. Those deep, housey influences were plain to hear in their early production work too, as they started to tout their name by remixing tracks.
These days, Tiefschwarz are rooted in Berlin's counterculture and continue to mastered a deep, driving sound that is firmly rooted in techno, house and electro, providing unforgettable soundtracks to clubnights across the globe.
Tiefschwarz plays on Friday, April 25th at Club Bonbon, Shanghai for a very special Godskitchen Worldwide event.
